Our recent getaway to New Orleans was nothing short of magical. Just a six-hour drive from Dallas, we packed our bags and hit the road, ready for some adventure and relaxation. Our first essential stop? Buc-ee’s, of course! No road trip is complete without loading up on snacks from this iconic spot.
With the car stocked and our favorite Louisiana artists providing the perfect soundtrack, we continued our journey. Upon arriving in New Orleans, we checked into the most charming Airbnb in Treme. This beautiful home, with its original features, gave us an authentic feel of New Orleans life. We were even greeted by the sound of roosters in the yard next door, adding a unique touch to our stay.
After unwinding from the drive, we set out to explore Bourbon Street. Although it started to rain—a common occurrence in New Orleans—it quickly passed, and we made our way to the French Quarter. Sipping on signature drinks like grenades and soaking in the soulful live music, we truly felt the vibrant energy of the city.
The next day, we returned to the French Quarter, where a visit to the St. Louis Cathedral was a must for me. I’ve always dreamed of having a small wedding with this stunning piece of architecture as the backdrop. While we ultimately decided to elope in Las Vegas, maybe a vowel renewal in the future isn’t out of the question…
Our French Quarter adventure wouldn’t have been complete without a stop at Oceana for some delectable crab cakes and oysters. We also took a somber detour to the slave trade site and the Holocaust Memorial along the Mississippi River, both powerful reminders of our country’s dark history.
Before leaving, we toured the World War II Museum, where we watched an excellent documentary narrated by Tom Hanks. It was a poignant tribute to all who have served and a highlight of our trip.
If you’ve never visited New Orleans, I highly encourage you to do so. From its rich history and unique culture to its incredible food and lively music, there’s truly no place like it. We can’t wait to return and continue our exploration of this enchanting city.
